Cataract

A cataract is characterized by a clouding of the lens resulting in a decrease of view.

On the development generally slowly progressive, it is the cause of decreased vision more and more troublesome. Initially, the subject is hampered by an abnormal sensitivity to light (photo-phobia), most marked under strong light (sunlight or glare when driving at night) may be accompanied by reflex tearing. Gradually, the vision loss is becoming increasingly difficult and hinders the most common acts of life, resulting in the indication for surgery.

There are several types of cataract:

- Cataract in the elderly, the most common, due to aging of the lens.

- Congenital cataract, family affection, whose early discovery in the very young child will be marked for surgery faster or slower depending on the size of the opacity of the lens.

- Traumatic cataract, evolution usually rapid.

- Cataract secondary to serious conditions of the eye (uveitis old, old retinal detachment, diabetes neglected).
