What is lumbago?
Lower back pain or low back pain is defined as a more or less strong in the lower back region. The pain can be acute (sudden onset and severe) or chronic if it lasts more than 3 months. Lumbago often occurs in younger people whose work involves physical effort, but it is not uncommon in older people as withdrawn.
What are the causes of lumbago?
In most cases it is possible to define what the exact cause of back pain. In 25% of cases, however, can identify a responsible cause of the picture. Often these patients suffer from a slipped disc, or osteoporosis (decreased bone calcification), or an abnormally curved spine (scoliosis), and rarely, skeletal injury caused by a tumor or infection.
What are the symptoms of lumbago?
- Pain in the lower back that sometimes radiates to the buttocks, the back of the thighs and groin. The pain worsens with movement.
- Restriction on the mobility of the spine, especially when bending forward or backward.
- Contractions of the muscles surrounding the spine causing back stiffness.
- When there is pain and contracture, the back may tilt to one side, causing a change in posture.
- The pain is sometimes accompanied by a tingling or numbness in the lower back, buttocks or legs.
