Umbilical Hernia Surgery
Definition
Is surgery used to repair an umbilical hernia, which is a mass or lump that protrudes through the navel.
Description
General anesthesia is used. Using a curved incision is made below the navel is explored and identified the body. Subsequently dissected (separated) from the underlying tissues and cut or gets into their normal position in the abdomen.
When completed, close the tissue with nonabsorbable sutures, very strong. The skin edges are sometimes closed with adhesive strips.
This scar can be hidden in the umbilical depression.
Indications
Umbilical hernias are fairly common.
It can be seen from birth and are caused by defects in the abdominal muscles that allow a portion of the peritoneum (lining of the abdominal cavity) protrude and push the umbilicus outward.
This is most obvious when the baby cries because as pressure increases the growth is easier to see.
It is not always necessary to operate this problem.
In most cases, around age 3 decreases and the hernia usually closes without treatment.
The indications for intervention are:
* Strangulated umbilical hernia.
* Moderate hernias do not close spontaneously within 4 or 5 years old.
* Children under 2 years with very large hernias are unacceptable to parents for cosmetic reasons.
Expectations After Surgery
You can expect a fantastic result. The long-term prognosis is excellent.
In very rare cases uses the hernia.
Convalescent
Most umbilical hernia operations are done on an outpatient basis.
After surgery, vital signs monitor the child for several hours and was discharged with medication to control pain.
It educates parents on how to care for the incision in his house, taking care not to wet or moisten the stitches for 1 week (beware of the bathrooms) and must be washed with damp sponge.
It expects to recover normal activity within 2 to 3 weeks.
Risks
The risks of any intervention under anesthesia:
* Reactions to medication.
* Breathing problems.
* Hemorrhage.
* Infections
Cost
The cost of any surgery varies significantly between surgeons, medical facilities, and regions.
If the indication is given care of young children should be more exhaustive.
