The Human Intestinal Microbes
The human intestinal microbes, and the branch of the immune system that regulates them, may be partly responsible for the metabolic syndrome, according to a study in mice by researchers at Emory University in Atlanta (USA).
Metabolic syndrome includes a group of metabolic problems associated with obesity that increase the risk of diabetes and heart disease. The work, published in the journal Science, is based on recent discoveries that link the composition of intestinal microbes with obesity. Read the rest of this entry »
